DailyOm for Emotions

DailyOm for Emotions

Author Madisyn Taylor share’s her take on getting in touch with your gut response in her book, Daily Om: Inspirational Thoughts for a Happy, Healthy and Fulfilling Day: ” So often emotions we long to express get stored in our bodies instead. …Rather than telling people, or even ourselves, the way we truly feel, we may stuff our true feelings deep inside of us, where they take up space until we are ready to let them go. …But this can actually be detrimental to our emotional well-being and physical health.  “One way to connect with and release your emotions is to do a focused exercies with your abdominal area. Take a moment to center yourself with some deep breathing and quiet meditation, relaxing your body fully and turning off the chatter in your brain. With your right hand on your belly, tell yourself three times: ‘Please reveal to me my true emotions.’ “Listen for the answers. Repeat the execise as many times as you would like, allowing yourselft to drop deeper into your body each time. Notice any physical response … . Remember that the body does not lie. “Releasing your pent-up feelings from your belly can prevent disease and allow you to live a more authentic and expressive life. … You can help alleviate this compression by doing the exercise and adding sound to your emotional release. The more guttural the noises emitted through your mouth, the more emotions you are likely letting go. Releasing your emotions form your belly does not have to be painful and hard; rather it can be organic and effortless. It is important not to judge whatever comes up for you. “…You can help yourself by acknowledging the truth of your emotions so that you can set yourself free.” (page 131-132) This is a great description of the emotional processing healing work! Madisyn explains that a guttural sound can help free the pent-up emotions. We see the use of guttural sounds in activities such as karate or kick boxing as well. You have power from your abdomen – it’s called your power center for a reason. The noises we make in emotional process work help clear the energy of emotion and help us gain deeper understanding of our parts. I highly recommend you try Madisyn’s approach and read her book.
